Second pilot completed in Bude!
On Sunday September 13th, a second pilot session was organised in the picturesque North Cornish beach town of Bude. The session was advertised through Facebook on local groups, and The Pearl Exchange, a local charity doing all sorts of amazing work for U35's, promoted us through their channels as well. In this brief report, find some photographs of our session, and an outlay of what is ahead.
The session was hosted by Ivo Berg and Pete 'Smudge' Smith. Ivo has 10 years experience as a surf coach, both in the UK and abroad. He is also a current RNLI beach lifeguard in Bude and holds an Ashtanga Yoga teacher certification. Pete is a founder member of Bude Surf Veterans, and business owner and lead coach at Saltwater Safari. Pete has over 20 years experience in delivering adventure sports and surf coaching and recently completed a post-graduate qualification in Outdoor Adventure with Therapeutic Practice. We were quite lucky with the conditions, as we had waves, dry weather and the ocean in September is still warm as well. After a round of introductions, Pete guided us through some breathwork exercises, in order for us to wind down, become present, and ease the nervous system.
After, Ivo warmed the group up with some gentle yoga postures, fostering body awareness, and preparing our bodies for taking on the waves of Summerleaze Beach. When all the board handling, paddling and safety instructions were given, it was time for some surfing!
It was a successful second pilot for The SACKED Project, which did not only teach us new lessons for the future, it brought five people together who didn't know each other before, and we ended up with great footage for our campaign as well. We now move into a stage of professionalizing the CIC (community interest company), a round of fundraising through events and the sending of applications to trusts and funds. Furthermore, we will need to plan for the tail end of this year, and for 2027, where we hope to do many more sessions like this one. We hope you enjoyed this update. Stay tuned for more!
